The meeting was held at Mikeska’s BBQ, (located on Hwy 59) El Campo, TX.
The chapter would like to thank Mikeska family for advertising our chapter meeting on their
new electronic color sign.
-
Note that this month's meeting report below is compliments of chapter member, Billy Orsak.
A big thanks goes out to Billy for taking the time to write the report!
-
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by chapter Vice-President, Larry Monroe. Larry
ran this month's meeting because chapter President Joe McCreary was recovering from a recent
health issue. There were 18+ attendees plus spouses. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited
and a prayer was given by chapter member, Augie L. The members then broke for a BBQ lunch.
-
Larry then recognized all those members who were having birthdays in June, and Happy Birthday
was sung by all.
-
After lunch a couple of announcements were made...
-
Larry confirmed that the chapter was now cleared by VVA National to raise chapter funds if
need be. This clearance was the result of a recent "mixup" between our chapter and VVA
National, but has since been resolved. We are now back in good standing with VVA National.

Chapter member, Billy Orsak, gave a short summary of last months chapter group session with
Dr Bailey, from the VA. Dr Bailey stated that he hopes to attend the meetings in person soon.
Next meeting will be June 30th. Billy has recently re-started monthly chapter group sessions
with Dr. Bailey, which several of our chapter members attend regularly. Much thanks to Billy
for taking charge of this chapter member benefit.
-
Chapter member, Billy Orsak, also gave a short summary his recent trip to Big Spring, TX with
members of his company (Charlie Co. 2nd Bn, 506 Inf., 101st Abrn Div.) to honor one of their
platoon members who was KIA on 04/01/1971. Billy will work on a short video presentation for
a future meeting.
-
Chapter member, Buck Mathews, also made attendees aware of an article he read in the Houston
Chronicle about what has happened in the 50 years since photographer Nick Ut snapped his Pulitzer
Prize winning shot of the young Vietamese girl, Kim Phuc Phan Thi, (the Napalm Girl), fleeing a
mistaken U.S. napalm strike on her village. Much thanks to Buck for bringing that article to our
attention.
