VVA Chapter 1069 Meeting Report for: March 3-9-2022
[posted on: 3-30-2022]
-
The meeting was held at Mikeska’s BBQ, (located on Hwy 59) El Campo, TX.
The chapter would like to thank Mikeska family for advertising our chapter meeting on their
new electronic color sign. See photo above.
-
Chapter Presiedent, Joe McCreary opened the meeting at 6:00 PM.
-
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and a prayer was given.
-
After the meal, Joe re-opened the meeting at 6:45 PM
-
Joe then recognized all those members who were having birthdays in March, and Happy Birthday was sung by all.
-
The main item on the agenda included an update and discussion regarding
the upcoming March 29, 2022, "Vietnam Veterans Day" fellowship gathering between our
chapter and 4 other local area VVA chapters, being held in Ammannsville, Texas.
The items discussed, verified, and voted on are listed below...
-
The March 29 Vietnam War Day Celebration at Ammannsville is still a go! Organizer
Leonard Sternadel has been meeting with the other chapters involved and things
are all set in place.
-
It was discussed and decided that the chapter would NOT rent or lease a large
passenger bus to carry members to the event (from El Campo to Ammannsville). There
just was no interest by anyone in riding a bus to the event. There is still a
possibility that we may use use a smaller shuttle bus provide by Everyday Heroes
if the chapter feels the need is there. Those who perhaps can not drive themselves
to Ammannsville, should try and find a ride with some member. Please contact John
Steelman if you have some issue in getting to the event.
-
A discussion then started up regarding the possibility that since the chapter
would not be spending a large amount of money for a passenger bus rental to carry
members to the event, that perhaps the chapter could pay for everyone's meals.
After some disscusion, a formal motion was presented from the floor "that the
chapter will pay for everyone's meals for the event". The motion was quickly
seconded, and the motion passed! So, everyone's meal for the March 29 Celebration
(member and spouse) will be paid for by the Chapter!
-
Soon after the the above mentioned motion passed, our Vice President's (Larry
Monroe) wife, Sharon Monroe, spoke up and said that there was more than enough
money in the PX piggy bank to pay for the meals (Sharon took over the PX management
from Dana Sternadel). Everyone thought this was a great idea, as it meant that
we would not be taking money out of our chapter's funds to pay for the meals.
Everyone should take note of what a great asset our chapter PX has turned out to
be - not only does it provide the chapter membership with a great little store
of Veteran goodies (and 50/50 games), but also provides the chapter with another
source of revenue that can be used for various projects. Of course another great
benefit of the PX profits are to help fund our yearly Christmas party. And be
sure to thank Sharon at the next meeting for her volunteering to manage our PX!
-
We again passed around our official sign-up sheet at the meeting. We are currently
looking at and hoping for an attendance of 30-40 members & spouses from our chapter
for the March 29 event. If you have signed up for the event, please make every effort
to attend. If you have not yet signed up at one of our meetings, or have not yet
contacted John Steelman, please do so. His contact information is listed further below.
-
The event is scheduled to be held in Ammannsville, which is about 10 miles north
of Schulenburg. We do have a map available online showing where Ammannsville is
located - use the link below to view or print the map.

-
The event is to start at 2:00 with a meal at 4:00. The meal will be catered and
at this point in time, the chapter is paying for the meals! The meal will be BBQ
Brisket, potato salad, pinto beans, salad & desert. Tea and water will be provided.
-
Five VVA Chapters are still participating in the event: El Campo, Hallettsville,
Columbus, Victoria & Schulenburg. If we take an average of perhaps 30 veterans
attending from each chapter, this could be a gathering of 150 Vietnam veterans in
one location. And with spouses, perhaps 300 or so total attendees.
-
Leonard Sternadle has found a special guest speaker for the event. His name is
Joe Weber and he is the County Judge in La Grange. Joe is a retired 3 Star
Marine Lt. General (Vietnam era). He should have some interesting stories to tell.
-
And again, if you still need to sign up for the event, or if you have any questions
about the event, please contact John Steelman.
