VVA Chapter 1069 Meeting Report for: Sept 9-12-2018

The meeting was held at Mikeska’s BBQ, El Campo, TX.

President, Leonard Sternadel, declared the meeting open.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and a prayer was said.
-
President Sternadel then recognized all members who were having birthdays in September.
-
The meeting was then recessed for the meal.
-
President, Leonard Sternadel, re-opened the meeting open at 1945 hours and the following business was transacted.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved as presented.

Mike Harbaugh (see photo below), Chapter member and the Wharton County Veteran Service Officer,
gave his Veterans Benefits presenation.
The topics for his presentation are listed below...
- Explaination of VA Dental work with respect to the new VA MISSION Act of 2018.
- September is suicide prevention month.

President Sternadel, then announced that the local Veterans support organization, Everyday Heroes, was having their
annual fundraiser banquet on Wednesday, October 17th, in the El Campo Civic Center. The organization uses two vans to
provide free rides for all veterans, from El Campo, (1) to the VA hospital in Houston and (2) to the VA Center in
Richmond, and back, every day! See photo below.
The event starts at 5:30 PM with a Social, and the main meal being served at 7:00 PM. The guest speaker will be Mark Geist,
who spent 12 years in the Marine Corps before going into private security. He was a member of the Annex Security Team in
Benghazi when it was attacked on September 11, 2012. He is credited with helping to save the lives of more than 25 Americans.
Our chapter has reserved two tables for the event for our membership. Please contact Dana to make reservations to
attend the event - first come, first served. Event flyers were also handed out for members to take home and put up
in local businesses so as to advertise the event.
