The meeting was presided over by the President of VVA Chapter 1069, Leonard Sternadel.

41 members & guests were present, along with 4 spouses were in attendance. One of the special guests
was Sarah Hudgins, local Veteran's Advocate and coordinator for the Veteran's "Wreaths Across America" program.

All attending members were then treated to a "special" meal! See below.

At the opening of the meeting, President Sternadel then asked that all guests go ahead and eat, if they chose to, next
door at Mikeska's BBQ. He then explained that he had arranged for a special meal be served to the members - MREs!

, that most of us Vietnam Vets were familiar with. And as the photos below show, this was truly an experience to see
what our current-day troops are eating in the field, as compared to what we ate 40 plus years ago in Vietnam.

Sternadel then asked Wharton County Veteran's Service Officer, Dwight Winkler, to update the members about
the upcoming Wharton County Veteran's Benefit Services Fair.

A brief report was given regarding our last stand down at FB Helen. The report included a slide show of pictures that were
taken at the event. Those who attended reported that they had a great time.

A detailed report was given regarding Everyday Heroes fundraiser that was held down at Surfside Marina in Surfside Texas a
couple of weeks ago. Approximately 50 Veterans, spouses & guests rode a chartered bus to the event. inluding members from
our chapter. The report included a slide show of pictures and videos that were taken at the event. Those who attended reported
that they had a super time and that they were treated like kings. A detailed report of the event can be viewed on our website

Sternadel reminded all that the catch, clean, fry and eat event would be held at their house this coming Saturday, May 17th.
This event is reserved for chapter 1069 members, spouses, family only.

Sternadel then asked Sarah Hudgins for an update regarding the attempt to rename the New Gulf school (Boling Tx) after Medal Of Honor
recipient Mike Peña. Sarah then gave a very detailed report of the events that ensued at the school board meeting.
In a nutshell, it did not go well. Sarah and the attending supporters and Veterans who attended the school board meeting
were not treated well. Many of our Chapter members were upset after hearing about the board meeting. More information on
this matter will be forthcoming, including a possible mass attendance of our chapter members to the next school board meeting.
Sternadel then informed the members that six veterans will be honored at 2:00 PM on June 1st at the Wharton County courthouse
and that a "Valor Walk" will be conducted at 2:00 PM on June 8th in Bay City, in honor of Mike Peña. More details about

The main 50/50 drawing was won by Larry Wetz. A second drawing was held for a prize that was donated by Larry Wetz - Jimmy Newman won that drawing.
